![]() On Mac OS I know two ways of changing an application icon.įirst one is simply to call Get Info ( ⌘ + I) on Qt Creator.app in Finder, click on the icon and drag and drop your file on it: ico: /path/to/qt-creator/src/app/qtcreator.ico. If that’s too complicated, here’s the one I already generated If you, like me, can’t figure our how to create an iconset from this, you can take the biggest image from there and use the script I wrote to generate. ![]() icns: /path/to/qt-creator/src/app/qtcreator.xcassets/qtcreator.appiconset. How to revert back to the previous iconįortunately, it’s not that hard to change an application icon on most of the platforms.īut first you need to get the old icon itself - you can either extract it from the previous Qt Creator versions or get it from the repository ( branch 4.8): I cannot call this a next evolutionary step, but I can call it “retarded”. 2019 - Qt Creator 4.9.0Īnd here’s the new “less boring”, “fun” and “creative” icon: Moreover, on Windows it doesn’t have a feather ( so much for consistency) and there it looks even better. I don’t know about you, but I can see an evolution here - the icon was getting better and better, and this particular version is simply my favorite one. To mark the points on the timeline, here’s the history of Qt Creator icon changes ( at least the ones I could find). How to revert back to the previous icon.Just what kind of designer would get an idea that this diagonally-mutilated two-color thingy (with all capital letters!) is better than the current nice and clean version? I reckon, a very creative and talented kind. But then some freshly hired demiurge from the design team apparently decided that those are just boring and came up with a new design, which in my arrogant opinion is basically a piece of shit: If you look for standalone versions beware however, many download sites for such tools nowadays are less than honest and either pack lots of adware into the download or outright badware that you definitely do not want to have on your computer. Not that long ago Qt logo and other stuff got rebranded, and most of the Qt tools got new icons. The application builder does not provide for a means to do that, but there are many resource editors out there, both as part of development systems such as Visual Studio or LabWindows CVI as well as standalone versions. In order to have multiple icons in an executable you have to add multiple icon resources into the executable, each with its own resource identifier (the number you have to put behind the comma in the registry). 32 * 32 pixels, or 16 * 16 for a small icon and if it can't find it, it retrieves the one closest to that resolution and rescales it, which often looks suboptimal. If the Windows explorer needs to display icons it retrieves the icon resource and looks for the resolution (eg. The multiple icons in a single icon resource are only meant for different resolutions, but really all represent the same icon. Nevertheless specifying icon path explicitly solves my problem. on LabVIEW, there is a group for a single file type icon. All of them list in the resource hacker as a single group. Looks like win uses them just for better apperance. With multiple images stored in a single file it doesn't work.
